 The Pipelle® Mark II includes:

- A flexible, transparent polypropylene sheath, 3.10 mm in external diameter, 2.6 mm in internal diameter and 23.5 cm long, with a lateral orifice 2.1 mm in diameter in its distal portion and four guide-marks 4, 7, 8 and 10 cm from its extremity. The sheath’s distal extremity is ground on 2 cm.
- An internal EVA piston, which slides up and down when pushed by a flexible acetal resin shaft.

Class I medical device, complying with Directive 93/42/EEC.

Sterilised with ethylene oxide

적용

 - The Pipelle® Mark II can be shaped before taking it out of its sterile packaging. Its slight elastic resistance helps the device retain a convexity to fit a uterine anteflexion or retroflexion.
- Disinfect the cervix thoroughly.
- In most cases, Pozzi forceps are not necessary.
- In post-menopausal women, a local anesthesia with xylocaine helps clear a stenosed cervix.
- Slide the Pipelle® Mark II gently through the cervix and up to the uterine fundus. The 4 guide-mark indicates the beginning of the uterine cavity. The 7 guide-mark can be reached in most cases, unless there is a cervical obstacle.
- Draw back the plunger fully to create a negative pressure.
- Sweep the uterine fundus slowly several times up to the internal orifice of the cervix, using regular to-and-fro movements while rotating the sampler to include the whole uterine cavity in the specimen.
- Continue until fragments of uterine mucosa appear within the sheath, which generally takes 30 seconds.
- Remove the Pipelle® Mark II fully and recover the cytology material first, then the histology material, as follows:

Cytology:

- Liquid-based cytology: cut the rough distal tip of the Pipelle® Mark II (approximately 2 cm) and place in a vial containing a solution for liquid-based cytology.

- Smear-based cytology: smear the specimen collected on the rough section onto a slide and fix.

Histology:

- Push the plunger to expel the content of the sheath in a solution for histology.
